Superb Nitrous Distribution
In a perfectly equal 45 degree split equal distribution is easy to achieve. However, we don’t know of any intake manifolds that have equal 45 degree runners below the throttle body. When you align the exit ports with the intake runners the uneven angles produce widely varying distances where the nitrous enters the exit ports from the cylinder holes, with some instances overlapping the holes! The competition uses this likely with inaccurate results. The Volcano Manifolds system was optimized using CFD and the patented system uses offset from center nitrous exit ports to regain the equal spacing of the 45 degree splits while allowing the angles to match the individual runner angles. The result is a reduction of cylinder to cylinder nitrous variation of up to 7% to down to less than 1%!
Fantastic Fuel Distribution
The nitrous oxide is injected directly out from the center with equal flow. The fuel on wet system flows around a ring and at an oblique angle into the path of the high pressure nitrous oxide to produce excellent fuel atomization and mixing with the nitrous oxide. This ring of fuel behaves kind of like a manifold in itself delivering fuel to each cylinder exit. Using a combination of CFD followed with live tool CNC machining we optimized the profile of the fuel ring to produce a large initial opening followed by tapered pathways resulting in cylinder to cylinder fuel variation from up to 10% down to less than 1%! This combined with the excellent nitrous distribution yields excellent results. You can believe if you had cylinder variation of 10% in fuel and 7% in nitrous in opposite directions the results may make a mess in your engine diaper.
Installation is easy and can be done without removing the intake manifold from the engine. Just like our air velocity devices, once the engine has the Volcano Manifolds patented system, wet or dry nitrous can be installed from the top of the engine easily by removing the carburetor or throttle body to gain access. Every nitrous kit will also include a hollow hex tube to help attach the fitting to the bottom of the Volcano Nitrous insert, this only has to be done once and then all jet changes are done at the solenoid. This means a jet change is as easy as a plate kit but with distribution more like a direct port system.
Just like our air velocity devices, the nitrous systems use no moving parts and only use robust polymer o-ring seals on machined surfaces for trouble free performance. These components are extremely reliable and proven in thousands of applications. The dry system uses only one CNC component to deliver the nitrous to every cylinder with no extra seals. The wet system only needs 1 extra CNC component to deliver the fuel and uses two radially sealed polymer o-rings to provide the best fuel sealing possible.
The entire system can be hidden from view in the engine compartment if you prefer. In this example the dry nitrous solenoid is hidden under the air cleaner mounted on the back of the intake in front of the distributor. A jet change simply requires taking off the air cleaner to gain access to the solenoid jet fitting.
The solenoids can also be mounted out in the open as shown on this dragster for even easier jet changes as you can see the fuel and nitrous solenoids mounted on each side of the back of the intake manifold. The fuel and nitrous jets are changed right at the solenoids with easy access. You can also see the wet system nitrous and fuel lines routing under the intake plenum above the valley plate. Notice there are no holes necessary in the valley plate to install the nitrous fittings as you use the included tool and everything is installed from the top side. No fasteners are below the valley plate to fall into the lifter area if they were to loosen. The solenoids could be mounted front or back or split, one front and one back. The fittings can also be rotated to come out the side if desired.
